Printing on the Edge!

I decided to try at a print which involves curves and thus hanging edges enough to just stick to the previous layer to test out the efficiency of the machine.  I used this pot from thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3781 I learned lots. belts slipped. Gears slipped. Temperatures varied. and I was watching this thing for 3.5 hours.… [Read more…]

clean pyramid

I saw that this pyramid (made by 3dprinterbot on thingiverse) was a good way to calibrate the stringing which occurs when the print head moves from one object across mid air to another.  Retraction is what its called and its under the Dimension Menu in Skeinforge. (Skeinforge->Carve->Dimension->’Retraction Distance’) It is set for 25mm and the… [Read more…]

I wanted to print out a toy truck which was on thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:9710 The reason I scaled it so small was actually because I wanted to print something quick after some bridge feedrate calibration I did in skeinforge.  Since this truck had some bridges in the back (where the dump part is), I thought might… [Read more…]

print in hand

Yay Alhumdulillah my first print actually printed. Even though it started to slide over to the left, this is a good starting point to troubleshoot further. I used g code generated from here: 3dtoolchain.com/index.php Its a website made by Techzonecom, the ones who sold me the huxley reprap, so the settings are good. I can… [Read more…]

Hot glue fill onto gear teeth dullness

Problem: X axis is slipping when it moves towards the left. This caused the print (which is really not a print) to be shifted to the left every turn. Solution: This was an issue of the belt rubbing against the washers at the edges of the X axis. I reduced the washers until the belt… [Read more…]
